Gibson SJ-200 Sunburst 1953

1953 Gibson SJ-200 Sunburst, truly the King Of Flat Tops! An incredibly responsive sounding guitar that has that iconic sound in spades, it's always a pleasure when we get one of these seldom seen classics in through our doors - these are few and far between over this side of the pond. This guitar has beautiful lacquer checking occurring on the Spruce top, with gorgeous figuring present on the Maple neck, back and sides.

This one came to us from a collector who has been a very good customer of ours since the beginning, he in turn sourced this from Carter Vintage Guitars in Nashville. This guitar has definitely lived a life and has had some maintenance over the seven decades its been around, including a professional neck reset, re-fret, bridge re-glue and a handful of cleated pickguard and soundhole cracks. The top has been oversprayed, and the pickguard is an period accurate replica, handmade by Fox Guitars. There are a couple plugged screw holes in the top, as well as a couple plugged strap button holes on the neck heel and bottom rim. Includes original Lifton case, which has been well loved but functions perfectly.
